چکیده

The issue of spatial equity Nature-Based Solutions in cities generally concerns the distribution their benefits to local residents and other city users. In context flood risk management, planners are challenged identify effective mitigation adaptation measures that can generate higher number people and, more specifically, with highest levels exposure vulnerability. To address these issues, an essential step is geography needs for mitigation, intended as prior areas which locate mitigation. This study combines geospatial layers multiple dimensions vulnerability flooding identifies suitable design scenarios risk, a regional case located Sicily. results show patterns vary according locally relevant physical social urban dimensions. Based on results, proposals actions advanced overall objective generating equal most vulnerable exposed subjects. Moreover, this argues about particular implications implementing stormwater green infrastructure planning beneficial potentially achievable reduction.

Combining conservation value, vulnerability, and effectiveness of mitigation actions in spatial conservation decisions: an application to coastal oil spill combating.

Increasing oil transportation and severe oil accidents in the past have led to the development of various sensitivity maps in different countries all over the world. Often, however, the areas presented on the maps are far too large to be safeguarded with the available oil combating equipment and prioritization is required to decide which areas must be safeguarded. While oil booms can be applied...

Risk Analysis for Flood Mitigation on the Raritan

We have developed a framework for flood mitigation risk analysis that applies generally to floods, and have applied it in this study of flood mitigation risk analysis for the Raritan Basin in New Jersey, USA. The framework we have developed involves a conceptual model of the relation among meteorological activity, hydrological models, infrastructure intervention, fine-grained topography, and ec...

Flood Characteristics and Mitigation Issues

Among various natural disasters floods make the largest impact in terms of number of casualties, people affected and property lost. Flood data during the past 30 years show that flood events that cause significant impacts have increased at a steady rate. Available data suggest that this increase could be attributed to increasing population and exposure, increasing property values located in vul...

Optimal Flood Mitigation over Flood Propagation Approximations

Globally, flooding is the most frequent among all natural disasters, commonly resulting in damage to infrastructure, economic catastrophe, and loss of life. Since the flow of water is influenced by the shape and height of topography, an effective mechanism for preventing and directing floods is to use structures that increase height, e.g., levees and sandbags. In this paper, we introduce the Op...
